Why to baptize the Children II ? |
When fall across such question, a clear mind, without doubt it should oppose oneself another question: why not to baptize them?
Yes, there would be necessary to encounter a careful exclusion in the New Testament with relationship to the children, since in the old alliance they were had as members of the " church ", or of the community of Israel, the people of the alliance, and they received the circumcision, still newly born, as external sign of the pact.
There is no doubt, that in Christ's church, although in the new alliance, it is the natural continuity of the people of God, it is enough to check the texts:
"...And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;" (Eph. 2:20);
"Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham." (Gl. 3:7);
"And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise." (Gl.3:29), and so many others.
We remember you, as it shows us C. HODGE, that the church adores to the same true God of the Old Testament, that preachs the salvation by the same faith: " Now the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed." (Gl. 3:8); "Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad."(Jo 8:56); you "Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham." (Gl.3:7), its guided by the same spirit (Zc.4:6) and it has the same statute (Lc.10:27).
Being the baptism the newtestamental parallel of the Old Testament circumcision , accordingly: "In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead." (Col. 2:11,12), therefore alliance's sign, the children could only be excluded by a specific instruction that flagrantly doesn't exist. It exists, this yes, Pedro's reafirmation in Pentecost: (Act 2:39), accordinly to Gn. 17:7;9-11.
We will return to the subject,
